Jean Ormaza started as a musician and crossed over to visual art in the late 80’s. She has been producing work that combines sound and moving image with sculpture and drawing ever since. She has taught in both the US and Ecuador for over 20 years and enjoys any projects that combine travel, art, and teaching. Such projects have taken her to the streets of Quito, deep into the Amazon, into the high Andes, and to the World Social Forum in Porto Alegre, Brazil. She maintains a studio in Framingham, MA where she focuses on large-scale drawing and sculpture. Jean approaches installation and multimedia projects with the same sensibilities a conductor and composer uses to combine multiple voices in music and relies heavily on theories from perceptual psychology and neuroscience to guide her decisions.
