Questions?

You’re in the right place: the following is a list of the most frequently asked questions regarding the Studio Foundation Cage and its facilities.
 

What is “the Cage”?

This is the place where Studio Foundation students and/or freshmen can borrow equipment (e.g., digital and video cameras, projectors, etc.), get help with software or equipment, make high quality scans/prints, edit your work, etc.

 
Where is the Cage located?

It’s located on the 3rd floor of the South Hall, in room 306.

 
What are the Cage’s hours?

Mon – Thurs, 8:00AM – 10:00PM and Fri, 8:00 – 7PM.

 
I want to check out equipment from the cage. What do I need to do?

If you are enrolled in a Studio Foundation class, you can check out equipment from the Studio Foundation cage. You will also need to present a valid Mass Art ID with a current semester sticker to the monitor before any transactions can occur.

 
I want to check out equipment from the cage, how long may I keep it?

According to our policies, all equipment checked out from the Cage by students must be returned the next day at 1:30PM. Since the cage is closed on Saturday and Sunday, if you check out on a Friday, you may keep the equipment until Monday at 1:30PM (for the Cage’s hours, refer to our schedule). You can renew your one-day checkout for an additional day, but the equipment must be brought back into the Cage before the checkout deadline in order for it to be renewed. You can also add the one-day extension at the time of checkout. If you require a longer checkout time, see Tech Central on the 3rd floor of Tower.

 
I want to check out equipment for longer than a single day, what options do I have?

According to our policies, at the time of check out, you may ask for an additional day (1:30PM, at the latest); at any other time, you may also renew your one-day checkout for an additional day. The Cage monitor will be able to grant this request in most circumstances, unless the equipment has been reserved, damaged, or returned late. We only allow checkouts for a maximum of two business days.

 
What happens if I return something late?

The first late results in a warning. Upon the second late, you will no longer be allowed to borrow from the Cage. Strikes are carried over into the Spring Semester.
