SF Cage FAQ

Questions?

You’re in the right place: the following is a list of the most frequently asked questions regarding the Studio Foundation Cage and its facilities.

What is the “SF Cage”?

This is the place where Studio Foundation students or any student enrolled in SF course can borrow equipment (e.g., digital and video cameras, projectors, etc.), get help with software or equipment, make high quality scans/prints, edit your work, etc.

Where is the SF Cage located?

It’s located on the 3rd floor of South Hall, in room S306.

What are the SF Cage’s hours?

Monday through Thursday, 8:00am – 10:00pm and Friday, 8:00am – 7:00pm.

I want to check out equipment from the cage. What do I need to do?

If you are enrolled in a Studio Foundation class, you can check out equipment from the Studio Foundation cage. You will also need to present a valid Mass Art ID with a current semester sticker to the monitor before any transactions can occur.

I want to check out equipment from the cage, how long may I keep it?

According to our policies, all equipment checked out from the Cage by students must be returned the next day at 1:30pm. The SF Cage is closed on Saturday and Sunday. If you check out on a Friday, you may keep the equipment until Monday at 1:30pm (for the SF Cage’s hours, refer to our schedule). You may be able to renew your one-day checkout for an additional day, depending on it’s availability, but the equipment must be brought back into the Cage by 1:30pm in order for it to be renewed. You may also be able add a one-day extension at the time of checkout depending on it’s availability.

If you require a longer checkout time, see Tech Central on the 3rd floor of Tower Building.

I want to check out equipment for longer than a single day, what options do I have?

According to our policies, at the time of check out, you may request an additional day (1:30pm, at the latest). If the item you are requesting is available for an additional day your checkout may be registered and confirmed by the Cage Monitor to be returned on the second business day by 1:30pm, at the latest; you may also request to renew your one-day checkout for an one additional day as long as the equipment is not already reserved, damaged, or returned late. We only allow checkouts for a maximum of two business days.

What happens if I return something late?

Do not return equipment late! If you do return something late consider it a warning. The second time you have a late return, you will receive a hold on your account and no longer be allowed to borrow from the SF Cage. This carries over into the Spring Semester and/or any subsequent semesters.
